I apologize for the unmade bed in the background. |
This is not the normal way I dress. My husband likes to comment all the time that my wardrobe consists of black. Black jeans, black t-shirts, black shoes, just black everything. I think I'm pulling off this hipster look quite well. This is the exact outfit I wore when taking my "old" clothes to Buffalo Exchange.
I have tried to sell my clothes to buffalo exchange multiple times throughout the years. It's never worked. I occasionally get a win. They may accept a t-shirt or a dress and I get a $15 in store credit or $7 cash pay out. The clerks that accept your clothes are such judges. I didn't understand why they were not accepting more of my clothes. My clothes are trendy and fashionable. I'm also knowledgeable of seasons. I don't try to sell shorts in November. Even though "hipsters" wear shorts with tights in the winter.
So I tried an experiment. The clerks that work at Buffalo Exchange are "hipsters". Would they accept clothes from a fellow "hipster". I categorize myself as a lady with a subdued style. I wouldn't say I am a jeans and a t-shirt girl. I try to fit in. I don't necessarily like to stand out. I don't have crazy hair. I don't wear crazy makeup. However, I don't want to be a "plain Jane". I give my own A Blonde Half Jap "flair". Which I guess means. I like to dabble with the trends, but they don't control my style.
To the Buffalo Exchange clerk I seem, ordinary. So, I think they judge this ordinary chick in front of them and don't buy my acceptable clothes. With this thought in mind I chose to dress the Buffalo Exchange part, and I dressed like a "hipster". "When in Portland, do as the hipsters do." I showed up with my brown paper bag of clothes. With this thought in mind, "Hazzah!" I received the most epic payout I have ever received. $27 cash payout.
So, here's a little piece of advice. If you want to sell your clothes to Buffalo Exchange. Play the part.
